Resurrection

Well, it's been a while. I believe the last time I posted to this blog was around 4 months ago! Funny considering how I intended this to a be  a"daily thing." If you haven't noticed (because who really reads this anyways), I changed the name of my blog to "Roberto S. Mendez Jr." The main reason I did this was to provide a more accurate title for what I actually intend to post on this blog from this time on. I realized after this past half year of having this up that I wouldn't be able to motivate myself enough to post daily so the title of "Day to Day Life," was a complete load of BS to anyone who actually took this page seriously. Going back to my new title, what exactly does it mean for the content of this blog? Well, in case you REALLY haven't noticed, I took the liberty of also updating the description of my blog as well.
"A blog where I write about my life experiences and anything I find to be interesting."
^There it is in all its vague glory
Sure, it may be ambiguous AF' in terms of topics but it sure gives me a lot of room to write about whatever I think is rad. Like the word rad, I think it's pretty rad. So there it is, I just explained what my "revamped" blog will consist of from now so hopefully it gives me an incentive to share some pretty cool stuff to you.
Anyways, an update on what has been going on with my life right now... Well, I am currently nearing the end of my first year in college with the end of Spring quarter coming quickly. I must admit, this past quarter seemed to zoom right on by. It also has been one of the busiest for me personally since the coursework has gotten more difficult. It's part of the main reason why I would always push back the blog posts in the first place. Thankfully, I have been devoting enough time to my studies to be able to understand the material well and am confident in terms of next weeks finals. Other than that, there isn't much else I can think about writing right now... I hope I am able to continue to post to this blog in the future as time permits. Well, that seems to be it for tonight. Until next time my friends.

Recalling the Weekend

This past weekend was fairly interesting. On Friday night, I learned that guys can indeed be sexually harassed (actually, a lot of guys that night learned). I guess some girl who was on some sort of crazy drug that night was going around trying to "seduce" some unwilling guys into who knows what. The point is that she wasn't holding back and was very hands on with her actions lmao. I guess the scary-sexual harassment part kicked in when guys would discover that this individual was a 300 pound gorilla looking to peel your banana. After totally feeling creeped out (as did many guys who suffered the same fate), I ended up trying to be as far away from her as possible. Saturday I woke up at around noon. I was pretty hungry, so I texted my hall-neighbor Kat to see if she wanted to go cash-out for lunch at Denny's. Not to my surprise, she was incredibly hungover. We ended up going around an hour afterwards and ate lunch. It was a pretty funny car ride because her headache was so bad that she didn't even want me to take turns. Apparently the extra motion from turning would cause her to become nauseated so I made my best effort to take every turn as rough and hard as possible. The rest of my Saturday didn't consist of much besides Chemistry homework and ping pong. Sunday consisted of doing laundry and Calculus homework for the most part. I even got a chance to play some catch with a football with  some of my hall-mates. Well, I just though I'd take a break from Calculus and post to my blog since I haven't done so in a really long while. I'm hoping for a very productive week this week since most of my midterms are scheduled for it. Wish me
luck! Until next time my friends

January 12th 2015

Hey everyone! Sorry it's been a while since I last posted, I've been caught up with other activities lately. The first week of the quarter is finally over and I'm actually pretty happy about it! Too bad there's still 9 more weeks to go... Last night I spent about 30 minutes planning a schedule for today on Google Calendar. I ended up inputting important dates and also all of my classes for the next few weeks. I even put in what I planned to get accomplished and at what times throughout the day! Sadly, I ended up breaking the first part of the schedule today when my plan to wake up at 10AM to read my EGR100 textbook turned into me waking up at 11:30AM and skimming the reading... Obviously I need more work on waking up on time but Game of Thrones at 2AM was just way too interesting! Not much out of the ordinary went on today. I went to CHM122 lecture at 3PM and then EGR100 at 4:30PM. I learned how to calculate the pH of a substance in chem and I also learned that I should review textbook readings before EGR100 just in case there are any possible POP QUIZZES. After totally failing my pop quiz, I went to dinner with a group from my hall. The food wasn't too bad today. Afterwards I went back to my dorm and drove a friend to the store real quick to buy something that he needed. I am currently trying to finish my chem homework and thought that I should take a break by posting to my blog. Well... I really need to get back to chem so I'll leave it at that. Until next time my friends.

January 7th, 2015

I started off the day at 7 AM to go to my 8 AM Chem 2 lab. I wasn't planning on eating breakfast beforehand until my roommate, James, convinced me otherwise. Despite having ate a pretty good omelette (made by the good omelette lady this time), I still felt incredibly sleepy during lab lecture. I was expecting my lab instructor to be an old hag, but she actually turned out to be pretty young! We ended up finishing an hour earlier since we had went over the syllabus and safety information. Later at 3 I went to my chem 2 lecture. I rushed to class since I was running late but despite arriving right at 3 my professor still ended up being 5 minutes late... Anyways, the start of lecture was interesting since there was a presentation on the new health insurance law and how people can sign up for Covered California. Honestly, I have no idea if I have health insurance... not too sure if that's real bad or not. Anyways, lecture wasn't too bad and afterwards I had to go to EGR100. The first thing I noticed at the beginning of that lecture was how many people DROPPED out of the class. I guess my professor really scared them with all the strict rules regarding assignments! I admit that I was regretting having chosen this specific professor during the first class session but I now realize that as long as I follow the required format of assignments I will be able to do just fine in the class. After I was all done with classes, I went to go eat dinner with some of my friends in the hall. I'm not sure if it's stored food from all I ate over winter break, but I haven't been hungry this past week. Even my roommate is experiencing the same situation! Well, I have to admit I'm pretty tired right now which is why this blog post seems to be a bit bland. It's just been a long day! I will update more tomorrow hopefully! Until next time my friends.

First Day of Classes Winter Quarter 2015

It felt nice not having to go to class on a Monday until 3PM. The first class I had today was CHM122 (Chemistry 2). Overall it wasn't too bad of  a first day in the class. It certainly went by fast since the professor jumped right into the material that needed to be covered. The scary part however was at the end of class where she mentioned that there is to be a quiz this Friday which is going to be what she calls a "brain dump."Basically we have to memorize a full paper that she emailed us that contains an assortment of polyatomic ions, various electrolytes (strong, weak, non), and salt solubilities. Then, for the quiz we get a blank piece of paper and are asked to recreate the entire page :(. Normally, this stuff was a breeze last year since we were given the tables during  tests. Hopefully I'll be fine this Friday, I'm just going to be studying the flash cards I made a little while ago. The class I had right after was EGR100 (Engineering, Society, and You). I've gotta admit, I walked into the class expecting it to be easy one for me since it was something that wasn't a major core and was just for first years. The professor certainly made it clear within 5 minutes of being in lecture that the class was to be taken seriously. There are so many rules in the class it almost seems ridiculous. For example, for each grammatical mistake made in writing assignments you are deducted one LETTER GRADE on the assignment. Not only is this terrifying, but it means that I have to spend extra time on my assignments. Actually, that's not really a big deal now that I think about it... Regardless it's terrifying. After about a half hour of making us plan on what class we were going to replace his with, he lightened up and expressed his totally human side. I actually sort of enjoyed his personality toward the end especially since he originally is a graduated mechanical engineer. Despite the strict rules, I am still looking forward to the rest of quarter there and excited to see what it brings. I have yet to attend all of my classes for this quarter officially so we'll see how it goes tomorrow. I'm probably going to go play Borderlands 2 now since I'm totally bored. I'll talk more about my new classes tomorrow. Also a big shout out to Kat and Yanelli for following up on my blogs (they begged me to mention them, don't know why). Oh! I forgot to mention that I forgot my wallet on my way to the Bronco Bookstore. I guess my punishment was the walk all the way back to my room to get it. Anyways...... Until next time my friends.

First Day Back At CPP For 2015

I'm finally back! Despite feeling super tired this morning, I ended up loading up the rest of my things into my car and taking off. The drive wasn't too bad and took the usual 3 hours. Along the way I did have to stop at Best Buy in Bakersfield to return a defective solid state drive (SSD) that I had recently purchased for a computer upgrade I was doing for my dad. I'm not sure if it's just me or everyone else too but I always seem to get the worst possible service at Best Buy. Luckily, today wasn't that case with Bakersfield's Best Buy.  They ended up processing my return quickly and without hassle. If there was one thing I did notice that was happening to me a lot today was me leaving my wallet in my car on my way to a place where I would eventually need to use it. When it was finally my turn up at the returns line at Best Buy, I was asked to present my ID. I gladly acknowledged to only realize that I had left my wallet behind in my car. Feeling a bit embarrassed I quickly went back to my car to retrieve it.  Afterwards, I ended up stopping for some gas nearby and the same situation happened to me again! As if that wasn't enough, it happened to me again here in Pomona when I stopped to get something to eat at In N Out! Usually when I drive, I find that sitting down with my wallet in my back pocket for an extended amount of time to be annoying. Because of that, I end up setting my wallet in my cars center console sometimes forgetting about it and leaving it behind when I really need it. Hopefully I get rid of this habit soon before I end up losing my wallet for good! As of now, I have now finished unpacking all of my belongings and settling in. All of my hall mates are slowly beginning to arrive back to their rooms and it feels good getting to see all their faces again. Well, I'm gonna go see where I left my wallet because I just realized that I have no idea where it's at. I'm also going down to check the lobby to see if anyone's up for a game of Ping Pong! Wish me luck! Until next time my friends.

January 2nd, 2015

Today started off as usual when I'm on vacation from school. I woke up, got dressed for work, then headed out to work. I actually woke up refreshed in the morning, not feeling tired at all! It was probably because I hadn't had to work 2 days because of the New Years holiday. Regardless, things went pretty much as usual. I spent the majority of my time at work today working on a 2007 BMW 530i which was having trouble with multiple oil leaks and failed daytime running lamps. I knew from the start that whatever the problems were it was going to be 10 times harder and expensive to fix since it was an imported European vehicle. Don't get me wrong BMW's, and Mercedes are attractive looking cars but when it comes to reliability and fixing them, it's a whole different story! After a few hours I fixed the oil leaks (leaking drain plug and oil cooler gasket) and tracked the source of the faulty daytime running lamps to the lamp control module. Apparently there is a Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) that had all the related symptoms that my specific vehicle was experiencing. Sadly, it listed the culprit as the lamp module. According to the TSB, the vehicle would need to be taken to a BMW dealership so that the techs there can flash the latest firmware onto the lamp module. If the new flash doesn't fix the problem, then the lamp module will need to be replaced. Sounds like a lot of hassle for lights no one really notices right? That's just the beginning with these cars. I knew today was gonna be the last day of work for this winter break, so I worked to finish all the cars that I started. I ended up doing so and now I'm free for now! I'm really looking forward to heading back to CPP to start my Winter quarter this Sunday! It will be nice getting to see my college buds again, and hopefully make a lot more crazy memories! I have big goals for next quarter, and I'm gonna bust my ass off to reach them. Another 10 weeks to make it right, and this time I'm ready! Bring it on winter. Until next time my friends.
